About the Medical Centre





Saboba, the Capital of the Saboba district of the Northern Region, (Latitude 9.7175 Longitude 0.3222 Altitude 406 feet) is a rural sub-Sahelian village, on the Togo border. The area of 2,810 Km2 (17462 sq miles), has a population approaching 120,000. This a grassland savannah, with acacia and shea trees. The climate is hot and dry, from November to May, followed by the rainy season, June and October. Due to poor soil and lack of water, farming is difficult. Subsistence farming and rural poverty is the norm for the majority of the population.




Saboba Medical Centre, the district hospital, is a program of AGREDS, a Church based NGO.  Patients are served regardless of race, creed, color, sex, religion, age or national origin. The most common treatments are :

* Snake bites * Malaria * Anemia * Pneumonia * Diarrhea * Hernias
* Intestinal parasites * Ear and eye infection * Accidents and fractures
* Caesarean sections * Urinary tract infections * Diseases of the skin


Saboba Medical Centre

The 100 bed hospital has a Women’s Ward, a Men Ward, Children Ward, and an Operating Theatre. Patients are admitted to the wards 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The hospital is staffed with 1 MD, 2 Medical Assistants, RN’s, Ward and Theatre assistants and an administrative staff.

Primary Care Clinic,  supervised by  Joshua Beso, R.N. focuses on Preventive Medicine. This includes the Maternal and Child Health Clinics with immunization of children under 5, detection of malnurtrition, health education, promotion of use of insecticide treated bed nets to prevent malaria, prevention of malnutrition, treatment and prevention of guinea worm, and typhoid. Prenatal care for pregnant women includes immunization, tetanus toxoid, distribution of Iron, Folic Acid and vitamins. Public Health programs are provided to the community and local villages.

They need a centre for malnourished children, where the mothers board with their children, are educated in proper nutrition at the same time the children are given special feedings and treated for any illnesses.

Two heavy duty motorcycles are requested to travel to the remote village.




The Outpatient building, built in 1978, recently painted, houses the laboratory, examine rooms, treatment rooms, insurance, pharmacy and cashier.
